Teacher Academy is more than teaching. While the course is designed to introduce high school students to a career in education, students gain skills that can be used in many fields. Working in collaborative groups, working with technology, presenting information, and working with a diverse group helps prepare students for careers in speech pathology, training, ministry, counseling, coaching, social work, etc.

Teacher Academy helps prepare students for a four-year post-secondary experience. Writing, presenting, and implementing technology are embedded throughout the two year program. Communication, interview skills, resume writing, and creation of a portfolio are integral components of Teacher Academy II. Students will visit college campuses and research scholarship opportunities at various institutions.

Teacher Academy students in both year one and year two will work in the classrooms of Lamar County teachers in grades pre-K through eighth. During field experience, students will work directly with students and assist teachers in daily tasks. Placement varies depending on student interest in grade level. Students in Teacher Academy learn to serve the community through service learning projects and assisting LCSD Parents as Teachers groups in community events such as Roll and Read.
